Singing Through the Power of Gospel

There is a magnificent power inside the human voice and when it's blended with others, we become a "VOICE CHURCH".

What this robust sing-a-long does, is allow you to learn something concrete about freeing your own voice while having fun within a very inspiring group of people.  Each session has a specific theme that focuses on and illuminates something new about your voice within an environment that's safe and joyous.

This sing-a-long also uses the raw power and energy of gospel and soul music to help you connect with your own source and style of singing. You'll be challenged in a way that helps you find and free your true voice naturally.  In each session there is a hearty sing-a-long and thus we learn about our voices by doing, as each session builds on the previous one.  Quiet the conversations in your head that keep you from thinking that you don't sound good.  If you want to learn how to sing correctly or want to gain confidence in your voice this sing-a-long is for you! 

No experience is necessary, just a willingness to sing is all that is required.

- Getting to Know Your Voice - Find the beauty of your own voice, by listening and approaching it in a way you may have taken for granted.
- Breathing & Relaxation - Discover the breathing power and energy of your voice.  
- Rhythm Inside Singing - Recognizing how rhythm affects both speaking and singing. Explore how improvisation can open your creativity.
- Overcoming "Stage Fright" - Discovering techniques to manage this phenomenon through singing with passion and joy.

Harmony & Improv

Each session builds on the previous one. First time students are recommended to take all four. Repeat students are allowed to take individual sessions.

Have you always had trouble singing harmony?  In this second installment of the popular VOICE CHURCH Workshop Series, the simple approach makes singing harmony fun and easy.  It goes a bit deeper and builds on some of what is captured in the initial VOICE CHURCH series.  You will begin to learn the vocabulary of basic harmony and explore improvisation as it pertains to your voice and body.

Every class builds with each session.

TOPICS

- What & How Are You Listening - We start with singing in EVERY session to build a sense of community. We'll explore all of the senses to discover how we really listen.  We use very simple melodies to find how harmony is created and explore those basics in a way that's clear and understandable.  

- Breaking Down the Thought, Getting it Right -Breathing correctly is essential to powerful voice development. We'll explore those techniques along with fun ear training and singing exercises that continue to build one's confidence in singing harmonies.

- Harmony & Improv Deconstructed The legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis once said, "Do not fear mistakes.  There are none". We begin to explore the fear of "singing it wrong" and ultimately break through what stops us from singing.

- Sing in Harmony - We explore and discover how easy it is to sing harmony with others.  Exercises in this session are used to continue building confidence and to help one not be so afraid to sing harmony ever again. This session also utilizes what has been taught in the previous sessions.
